Travelling by car, bus, train and plane, this is an exploration of the eleven states that made up the Confederacy, from Graceland to Miami Beach, Coca-Cola to Martin Luther King, Jr. and from the Smoky Mountains to the Mississippi Delta. Although still characterised by God and guns, heat and history, the South is as much a state of mind as a physical place.
